MDU Resources Announces Retirement of Construction Business Executive

BISMARCK, N.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MDU Resources Group (NYS: MDU) today announced that John G. Harp, chief executive officer of its construction businesses, has elected to retire.

Harp has been involved in the construction industry for more than 30 years. He has been CEO of both MDU Construction Services Group and Knife River Corporation since December 2011. Prior to that he was president and CEO of MDU Construction Services Group since 2004. By 2005, Harp had turned MDU CSG into one of the most successful specialty contractors in the United States.

"We are fortunate to have two strong, seasoned executives in place who have been leading our construction units -- Dave Barney as president of Knife River Corporation and Jeff Thiede as president of MDU Construction Services Group. We are pleased to announce that Dave and Jeff will serve as both president and chief executive officer of their respective businesses, effective immediately."

Barney has been president of Knife River since December 2011. He was named president of Knife River's Western Area operations in 2008, after holding several positions of increasing responsibility within Knife River.

Thiede has been president of MDU Construction Services Group since December 2011. He was named president of Oregon Electric Group in 2004 and president of Capital Electric Construction in 2006; both are MDU Construction Services Group companies.
