Synaptics Crushes Earnings Estimates
Synaptics (NAS: SYNA) reported earnings on April 25. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended March 31 (Q3), Synaptics beat expectations on revenues and crushed expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue expanded significantly. Non-GAAP earnings per share grew significantly. GAAP earnings per share grew significantly.

Synaptics recorded revenue of $163.3 million. The 13 analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ predicted revenue of $145.6 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 24% higher than the prior-year quarter's $131.7 million.

EPS came in at $0.79. The 13 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.57 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.79 for Q3 were 55% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.51 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.07 for Q3 were 224% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.33 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 49.6%, 240 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 14.6%, 340 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 22.3%, much better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $158.7 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.65.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $574.4 million. The average EPS estimate is $2.13.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 742 members out of 778 rating the stock outperform, and 36 members rating it underperform.
