Silicon Motion Technology Misses Where it Counts

EPS came in at $0.17. The seven earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated $0.22 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.17 for Q1 were 59% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.41 per share. GAAP EPS of $142.05 for Q1 were much higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.39 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 43.8%, 560 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 12.2%, 860 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 8.4%, much worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $70.9 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.39.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $309.0 million. The average EPS estimate is $1.84.
