Altria Group Increases Sales but Misses Revenue Estimate

Altria Group (NYS: MO) reported earnings on April 25. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS details
EPS came in at $0.54. The 13 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.53 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.54 for Q1 were 10% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.49 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.69 for Q1 were 17% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.59 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 48.4%, 690 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 38.9%, 210 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 25.1%, 480 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)

Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $4.62 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.63.
