Office Depot Kicks off Earth Month with New Corporate Citizenship Website

Interactive Site Delivers Transparency on Hundreds of Sustainability Metrics

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Office Depot, Inc. (NYS: ODP) , a leading global provider of office supplies and services, today announced that the Company is celebrating Earth Month with the debut of its new Corporate Citizenship website. The site, www.officedepotcitizenship.com, offers visitors an interactive experience to learn about Office Depot's commitment to business, ethics, diversity, communities and the environment around the world. The site features testimonials, photos, videos, infographics and in-depth environmental dashboards for North America and European environmental performance.

The new website also provides enhanced coverage of activities in Office Depot Europe - allowing interested stakeholders an understanding of Office Depot's efforts beyond its North American operations.

"At Office Depot we know that good corporate citizenship and good business go hand in hand," said Neil Austrian, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Office Depot. "On this new website, we are proud to showcase a wide range of sustainability initiatives that not only contribute to our social and environmental goals, but also have a meaningful impact on our economic sustainability."

Highlights from the Corporate Citizenship website include:

  • Environment: Office Depot North America reached a milestone 10,000 products with environmental attributes; reduced its absolute carbon footprint from facilities by over 11 percent for the third consecutive year; and increased sales of FSC certified papers by over 75 percent. Office Depot Europe hit a 91 percent recycling rate and grew greener product sales to over €300 million.

  • Diversity: Office Depot earned a 100 percent score in the 2012 and 2013 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) issued by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The ranking recognizes Office Depot as one of HRC's Best Places to Work for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Equality.

  • Ethics: Office Depot conducted Code of Ethics compliance training in 23 countries in 12 different languages. The Company's ethics and compliance program was further strengthened through the deployment of a Company-wide Anti-Bribery/Anti-Corruption (ABAC) Policy and the implementation of an Anti-Money Laundering Compliance program in the North American Retail Division.

  • Philanthropy: Office Depot Foundation contributions touched hundreds of non-profit organizations. In 2011, grants and contributions of approximately $800,000, and in-kind donations of $5.3 million, benefited 273 organizations. The Foundation also spurred volunteer support through its Caring Connection website, resulting in over 4,000 hours of service to U.S. non-profit organizations.

Environmental data included in the Corporate Citizenship website was independently reviewed by PricewaterhouseCoopers, providing stakeholders enhanced confidence in the data. Additionally, for the sixth consecutive year, the environmental dashboard was designed by referencing the Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) guidelines.
