Deutsche Bank Signs up for New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Carbon Challenge

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Deutsche Bank today announced its participation as one of ten charter members in New York City's Carbon Challenge to commercial offices. Deutsche Bank is one of five companies to pledge a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from our New York City offices by 40% in the next ten years. Five others have committed to a 30% reduction. This challenge was created as part of plaNYC to reduce city-wide green house gas emissions by 30% by 2030.

Upon accepting this challenge, Jacques Brand said, "On behalf of our approximately 6,000 local employees, we are pleased to be part of the New York City Mayor's Carbon Challenge to commercial offices. Over the past few years we have completed approximately 80 distinct projects in New York City which reduced our use of electricity by 18.3 million kwh per year, a reduction of approximately 25%. We installed 682 solar panels on our roof, which will decrease carbon emissions by 100 metric tons per year. Because of these and other efforts, our corporate headquarters at 60 Wall St. was recognized in 2012 as the EBie All-Rounder award winner as the most improved building in the United States across multiple sustainability capabilities by the Urban Green Council."

Brand continued, "Additionally, through the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, we recently announced Deutsche Bank's commitment to cleaner energy through the establishment of a $30 million Community Clean Heat Fund and philanthropic support for the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation."

Deutsche Bank committed to being carbon neutral by 2013, which was achieved over a five-year period by reducing the bank's global carbon footprint by 20% per year since 2007. For more information on Deutsche Bank's sustainability efforts, please visit: www.db.com/cr/en/docs/CR_Report_2012.pdf
