Integrated platforms designed to improve health data exchange and care outcomes for providers
WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- athenahealth, Inc. (NAS: ATHN) , a leading provider of cloud-based services for electronic health record (EHR), practice management, and care coordination, today announced that Cerner has certified athenaNet®, athenahealth's suite of cloud-based services, for interoperability with the Cerner network. athenaNet is comprised of five core cloud-based services: athenaClinicals® (EHR); athenaCollector® (practice management); athenaCoordinator® (care coordination); athenaCommunicator® (patient communications); and athenaClaritySM (analytics). The Cerner Interoperability Certification Program is designed to create integrated platforms that transform health and care delivery by enabling health systems, hospitals, and practices to achieve their health information exchange goals and improve outcomes.
Through the Cerner Interoperability Certification Program, athenahealth will be able to exchange clinical, financial, and administrative data between athenaNet and Cerner® solutions, offering greater flexibility to providers who need to coordinate care and exchange information outside their hospital walls and via different EHR vendors. The Cerner certification process verified that athenaNet is interoperable with the Cerner network by providing electronic data exchange using Cerner's architecture and communication protocols. athenaNet was awarded the highest level of certification, "Gold" level certification, based on Cerner's review criteria which evaluate nearly 100 data points covering interoperability, standards-based methodology, resource availability, and leadership initiatives.
"The Cerner Interoperability certification supports our work to be a truly open, cloud-based platform that helps providers coordinate care regardless of the health environment they work in, or HIT system they use," said Jonathan Bush, CEO and Chairman, athenahealth. "In order to do their jobs well, care teams need unencumbered access to clinical, financial, and administrative information in real-time. It is our job, as vendors, to make interoperability possible and to do it now. This certification ultimately means that those using Cerner and athenahealth can communicate, while maintaining the highest standards of data quality."
