United Tech to Provide Engines for Hawaiian Airlines
Following up on January's announcement that Hawaiian Airlines is buying 16 new A321neo airliners from Airbus -- and optioning nine more -- airplane engine maker United Technologiessaid Thursday that it will be supplying the engines for all 25 airplanes.
Depending on whether all optioned planes are actually ordered, UTC's Pratt & Whitney subsidiary will supply up to 50 PurePower PW1133G-JM engines to power the planes, and sign Hawaiian to a long-term fleet management program to maintain the engines. Financial terms were not disclosed in the press release.
Hawaiian offers nonstop service to Hawaii from 11 U.S. gateway cities, along with service from Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa, and Tahiti. New nonstop service is scheduled to begin between Honolulu and Taipei, Taiwan, on July 9, and Beijing, China, on April 16, 2014. Hawaiian also provides some 160 daily jet flights among the Hawaiian Islands.
