I won't snuff out Polygon's fire here, but they've got a helluva scoop. Before Keiji Inafune left Capcom in 2010 – he was the big man behind Mega Man, Lost Planet, and virtually every Resident Evil – he had Austin, Texas-based Armature Games begin work on a first-person reboot of Mega Man called Maverick Hunter. After he left, it went, too.

If the shot above looks like Metroid Prime, there's a big reason why. Armature Games was formed by several key employees responsible for the trilogy at Retro Studios.
