Lenovo Wins "Red Dot" Design Awards
Chosen for "red dot" design team of the year 2013
MILAN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Lenovo (HKSE: 0992) (PINK SHEETS: LNVGY) today announced that the red dot awards from Germany, one of the most prestigious design awards in the world, has recognized Lenovo's design achievements by naming Lenovo in its annual list of red dot winners. Named among the award-winners for Lenovo was IdeaPad U430s laptop PC, as: "red dot: best of the best". In addition, and perhaps even more significant, was an honorary award bestowed upon Lenovo's Design and User Experience Team, who among a host of competitive distinctions, achieved the honour of "red dot: design team of the year 2013."
This unique title, to which no company or designer can apply, honours a corporate strategy by which innovative and high quality products sustainably influence the business success. A claim that - as the red dot organisation itself phrased it - "the Lenovo Design and User Experience Team satisfy abundantly. For years, Lenovo has impressed the expert jury of the red dot design award with its products and their outstanding design quality. As a reward, it was chosen as red dot: design team of the year 2013".
To become the "red dot: design team of the year", Lenovo was measured against other design teams worldwide, weighing such design criteria as innovation, technology, team work and performance. Since 1988, red dot has been selecting one design team every year that shapes markets around the world through consistently innovative design achievements. The list of winners in recent years included such renowned companies as Nokia, Adidas, BMW, Bose and Porsche.
Lenovo is the first Chinese company to win the "red dot: design team of the year" title, which demonstrates the Company's international innovation and design ability, a significant advantage in both domestic and global markets, as customers have shown time and again that good design matters. This particular honor is a "breakthrough" moment for Lenovo, which is a household name in China, and quickly gaining brand recognition for innovation, technology leadership and design in the rest of the world.
Lenovo's proud history in the "red dot award: product design" includes approximately 21 award-winning products. For example Lenovo's IdeaPad U430s (2013), ThinkCentre Edge 91 (2012) and Yoga Concept (2005) have won red dot's highest honour --- the "best of the best" award. All these red dot distinctions help to illustrate the point that Lenovo has consistently delivered on good design and takes product design seriously when delivering new, innovative and stylish products to its new customers around-the-world.
"Lenovo is a company with a truly international approach, a strong in-house design unit and an intense, almost bold focus on quality", explains red dot initiator and CEO, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec. "In addition, Lenovo has long been successful in the red dot design award. Both in 2012 and 2013, Lenovo gained the highest single award, a 'red dot: best of the best'', as well as many red dots since Yao Yingjia has taken lead of the team. He has managed to find a genuine design language that is understood everywhere in the world. His open-mindedness is reflected in unique forms and applications, and also in the use of original materials unseen before in notebooks and tablets. I'm therefore very happy to present Lenovo with the exceptional honorary title 'red dot: design team of the year 2013' - and deservedly so!"
"This historic award means a lot to our Design and User Experience team, as it recognizes our consistent innovative and quality design achievements in the past few years" - adds Yao Yingjia, Vice President and Head of Design and User Experience at Lenovo - "Lenovo is committed to becoming a global leader in the PC Plus era, the era of tablets, smartphones, smart TVs and PCs. To achieve this objective, Lenovo's Design and Users' Experience Team will continue to apply our seasoned PC experience, entrepreneurial far-sightedness and excellent innovation design, to give our customers products that are reliable, functional, high-performing, easy-to-use, and of course, pleasing to the eye. The "red dot: design team of the year 2013" award is a great encouragement and inspiration for us to go further, and spare no effort to be part of, or even take the lead, of the global design development and customer experience trends."
