CNA Celebrates National Community Banking Month in April

CNA and the CNA Foundation Team with Operation HOPE to Promote Financial Literacy

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This April, CNA is joining the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) in celebrating Community Banking Month; a nationwide effort to recognize the many contributions local financial institutions make to their customers and communities.

"Community banks play a vital role in the lives of their customers and communities, and CNA is proud to recognize these institutions for their dedication to local citizens and businesses across the country," said Mark Tomlinson, Assistant Vice President, Community Banks Underwriting.

To honor the month, CNA and the CNA Foundation are teaming up with Operation HOPE to promote free financial literacy training for students ages 9-18, teaching empowerment, responsibility and hope in primarily underserved communities. In addition to the CNA Foundation making a $50,000 donation to Operation HOPE's Banking On Our Future program, CNA is sponsoring financial literacy training at Chicago's St. John de la Salle Catholic Academy on April 23 from 8:30 to 11: 30 a.m.

"CNA is committed to strengthening the communities where our employees live and workby providing volunteer and financial support to non-profit organizations dedicated to building healthy and prosperous neighborhoods," Tomlinson added.

"It is through partnerships like this that HOPE is able to deliver the financial literacy tools that empower our youth and change lives," said Mary Hagerty Ehrsam, President Global Youth Empowerment Group.

Along with sponsoring an educational event in Chicago, CNA is encouraging all branch offices to team up and take part in financial literacy empowerment initiatives within their local communities throughout the year.

Operation HOPE's Banking on Our Future program seeks to elevate the dignity, hope, and economic self-sufficiency of people in low-wealth communities through financial literacy. The program is a winner of the Oprah's Angel Network Award and the U.S. Treasury Department's John Sherman Award for Financial Literacy Excellence. Initiated in 1996, the program has educated over 700,000 youth world-wide. Banking on Our Future teaches youth the basics of checking, saving and the importance of credit and investment, using a network of area trained HOPE Corps volunteers from local banking and private financial-industry related firms.
