Following the success of 4 Pics 1 Word and Icomania, developer Games for Friends GmbH has swiftly cranked out Pic Combo, a picture puzzler rehashed with a familiar design and rule set in a new, fancy wrapper.
In Pic Combo, you must pair together two words to solve the phrase. Unlike 4 Pics 1 Word, there are no coins rewards for completing levels, instead you are rewarded with an emergency letter that you can use as a boost when you're stumped on any particular puzzle.
Many of the puzzles are delightfully simple.
Others cause a bit of a problem. It seems that the more of an imagination you have, the more possibilities you can think of for each given picture, making it hard to land on the exact phrase the developers had in mind.
Is that a vegetarian rabbit? A fresh bunny? Nope, the answer is 'foodstuff'. These kinds of puzzles will cause the most frustration. They don't make much sense and you'll likely use all of your bonuses trying to guess. If you run out of bonuses, the game has no problem sending you to the microtransactions page where you can spend up to $40 on in-game bonuses. I wondered sometimes if the developers included these needlessly difficult puzzles for a quick microtransaction cash grab.
Pic Combo plays just like 4 Pics 1 Word and that's a good thing. It's an addicting, functional puzzler that will keep you satisfied until Games for Friends GmbH next, no-frills puzzler.
