Alaska Communications and Kodiak Area Native Association Bring New Healthcare Services to Kodiak Island

Telehealth Services Help Physicians, Clinics and Patients Consult Via Video

ANCHORAGE, Alaska--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Alaska Communications (NAS: ALSK) and Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) are improving healthcare for residents on the nation's second-largest island, Kodiak Island, located in Southwest Alaska.

Alaska Communications has committed to provide the native healthcare organization with the broadband circuits to provide enhanced telehealth services to the association's six village healthcare clinics. Telehealth services enable health care providers to consult remotely with patients and other providers. The services will help KANA's healthcare clinics expand access to specialist services, such as mental health, cardiology and critical care experts - vital for patients and physicians in rural and remote areas like those on Kodiak Island.

Alaska Communications partnered with Old Harbor Native Corporation, one of Kodiak Island's largest Native Corporations, to deliver the broadband network that will enable telehealth services. Alaska Communications will also provide ongoing support for this network.

"We are pleased to help all communities served by KANA get the care they need regardless of location. We understand the urgent need in Alaska to provide telehealth services and the broadband solutions required to support them," said Anand Vadapalli, Alaska Communications president and CEO.

"We've chosen Alaska Communications' broadband network to support our telehealth services because of the speed, security and reliability anticipated from its network and of course, their dedicated customer service," said Andy Teuber, KANA president and CEO.
