Ah, popularity. Even though companies work so hard for it, they're never quite prepared for a possible backlash. Last week, photo app Instagram saw the dark side of being trendy when its users expressed outrage over a brief technical glitch.

Social media giant Facebook , which bought Instagram last year, is no stranger to this kind of consumer vitriol. Is it simply all in a day's work for both companies? In the video below, Fool contributor Caroline Bennett looks at the situation.
