Boingo Releases Wi-Finder App for Windows 8

Wi-Finder for Windows 8 Offers Intuitive Connection Experience, Enhanced Mapping Functionality

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Boingo Wireless (NAS: WIFI) , the Wi-Fi industry's leading provider of software and services worldwide, today announced the availability of its award-winning Wi-Finder app for the Windows 8 operating system. The new app has been optimized for the unique Windows 8 Metro user interface, making it quick and easy for users of Windows 8 laptops, ultrabooks, and tablets to find and connect to Boingo hotspots worldwide.

The Wi-Finder app for Windows 8 offers an intuitive connection experience for Boingo's more than 600,000 commercial hotspots around the globe. The app will notify users when they are near a Boingo hotspot, and Boingo subscribers can enable auto-login to make accessing the Internet simple and seamless in supported hotspots.

"Our Wi-Finder app for Windows 8 takes full advantage of the new, modern Windows UI, and for the first time includes in-app driving directions from the user's location to any Boingo hotspot," said Rich Sootkoos, vice president of product for Boingo Wireless. "With features like immersive maps, at-a-glance network identification and the ability to search for hotspots by keyword, our Wi-Finder app makes it easier than ever for users to get connected and avoid paying for cellular data overage charges."

Simplified Connections

The new Wi-Finder app for Windows 8 simplifies the connection experience for all users, eliminating the need for multiple accounts. The app will notify users when a Boingo signal is nearby by popping a quick notification. Users can simply click on the notification to launch Boingo Wi-Finder and get connected.

Boingo subscribers can enjoy a seamless Wi-Fi experience by enabling the auto-login feature. Once auto-login is selected, Wi-Finder will connect users to the Boingo managed and operated hotspots included in their plans automatically, with no user action needed.

Boingo's managed and operated hotspots are also easily identifiable in the Windows 8 "Settings" menu. Users can look for the network labeled "Use Boingo Wi-Fi Here!," click to connect, and start surfing online.

Immersive Mapping Experience

In addition to making connecting one-click simple, the new Wi-Finder app makes finding a Boingo hotspot easier than ever. The new app for Windows 8 leverages Bing Maps' immersive mapping experience to provide a full screen map experience in the app or the "Search" field.

Users can search for hotspots by keyword or location, and can view the results in neighborhood, state or nationwide clusters, or zoom in to see individual hotspot locations and Boingo's color-coded hotspot quality categorization. Hotspots can be viewed in either standard or Bing Maps' aerial view.

Once a user has found their closest hotspot, Wi-Finder for Windows 8 can help them get to it fast with new in-app driving directions. Windows 8 Wi-Finder users can set their starting location, choose their hotspot destination, and receive directions including estimated distance and drive time.

Boingo's Wi-Finder app received the 2012 About.com Reader's Choice Award for "Best Travel" app. The company has received the award for "Best Wi-Fi Service" from Global Traveler magazine for three years and counting.
