Chevron Lubricants Case Study Highlights Fuel Economy Improvements for R.E. West Transportation

-- Delo 400 SAE 10W-30 Delivers Fuel Economy Savings in DD15 Engine --

SAN RAMON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Chevron Products Company, a Chevron U.S.A. Inc. division, released a case study highlighting the performance of Delo 400 LE SAE 10W-30 formulated with ISOSYN® Technology and Delo Extended Life Coolant (ELC) at R.E. West Transportation. By using Delo products, R.E. West was able to extend service intervals and improve fuel economy, resulting in significant bottom-line cost savings for the company.

R.E. West is a nationally recognized contract and dedicated truckload carrier with a fleet of 120 trucks and 300 trailers. The company conducted a test using Chevron's lower-viscosity Delo 400 LE SAE 10W-30 engine oil in an effort to evaluate the feasibility of switching its fleet to the fuel economy-focused product, while also extending drain intervals. After comparing data, R.E. West found the trucks running Delo 400 LE SAE 10W-30 delivered noticeable fuel economy improvements versus similar trucks using SAE 15W-40 oil. Translated across the entire fleet, these reductions in fuel consumption could represent significant savings.

Beyond improvements in fuel economy, R.E. West was also able to achieve 70,000 mile oil drain intervals using the Delo 400 SAE 10W-30 engine oils, creating additional savings opportunities.

Fuel Economy and Durability

After one of the Detroit Diesel DD15 engine used in the testing was torn down at 500,000 miles of service, R.E. West found its components to be in excellent condition with minimal wear, thanks to the use of Delo 400 LE SAE 10W-30 and Delo Extended Life Coolant. In addition to improved fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, the extended durability can help protect resale value - an important consideration for any transportation business.
