Leaders in health care innovation empower patients to find care information and schedule treatment via the cloud

WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- athenahealth, Inc. (NAS: ATHN) , a leading provider of cloud-based electronic health record (EHR), practice management, and care coordination services to medical groups and health systems, today announced a partnership with iTriage, one amongst a series of More Disruption Please (MDP) collaboration agreements. Together, the companies will work to link athenahealth's growing network of about 40,000 health care providers with the more than eight million consumers who have turned to iTriage to learn more about medical problems and find nearby treatment.

Recognized as one of the top mobile health care apps, iTriage goes beyond clinical investigation for the consumer by aligning patients' medical needs with relevant information and access to appropriate and available care. iTriage gives consumers a tool to research symptoms, explore causes, locate a nearby provider, and book an appointment.

"iTriage is a powerful tool for both patients and providers. It connects patients in need with caregivers who can treat their ailments quickly and effectively," said Jonathan Bush, CEO and Chairman, athenahealth. "Our work with iTriage is indicative of the value we will keep introducing to health care through the More Disruption Please program. As we work to be medical caregivers' most trusted service, we'll continue to innovate and build partnerships that create mutually beneficial synergies for providers and patients, introduce new efficiencies to care coordination, and nurture and enable patient engagement."

By partnering with iTriage, athenahealth providers* will be able to link their schedules to prospective patients who are looking for related care services via the iTriage app or web platform.

Peter Hudson, M.D., CEO and co-founder, iTriage said: "We are excited to partner with athenahealth to expand the number of providers listed in the iTriage app. Our millions of users are empowered patients who desire choice and flexibility in selecting care. More Disruption Please (MDP) is athenahealth's business development program; it is aimed at launching a massive surge of disruptive innovation in health care for the overall advancement in the way patient care is coordinated, delivered and reimbursed. MDP targets innovators, entrepreneurs, companies, investors, and individuals—anyone who is passionate about overthrowing established approaches in health care that simply aren't working, aren't good enough or aren't advancing the industry. Unlike other health care startup incubators, MDP provides an advantage in that qualified, high-quality companies like iTriage can gain access to the nearly 40,000 providers who are plugged into athenahealth's cloud-based network. Through the MDP program, athenahealth will continue to introduce new services and accelerate the introduction of high-value innovation via the cloud.
