Avnet Recognized as One of Top 10 Large Firms in the Phoenix Business Journal's "2013 List of Healthiest Employers in the Valley"

Avnet recognized for its Healthy Steps employee wellness program

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a global value-added technology distributor, was recognized as one of the top 10 large firms on the Phoenix Business Journal's "2013 Healthiest Employers in the Valley" list. The list highlights Phoenix-area employers that are committed to creating healthy workplaces. Avnet, ranked number nine on the list, was recognized for its Healthy Steps wellness program for employees in Arizona and throughout the U.S.

"At Avnet, we are committed to enriching the lives and overall well-being of our employees and offering them access to wellness programs that promote better living," said MaryAnn Miller, chief human resources officer, Avnet, Inc. "We're creating a workplace environment where Avnet's employees and their families are enabled and energized to maintain optimal health. This recognition from the Phoenix Business Journal honors our employees for taking proactive steps towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle."

Avnet's Healthy Steps worksite wellness program offers motivation, resources and incentives to help employees make lasting lifestyle changes. Employees of all fitness and health awareness levels engage in health initiatives that facilitate a holistic wellness culture. These proactive steps are designed to help Avnet employees maintain a healthy lifestyle, ensuring their vitality and reducing their risk of illnesses.

Throughout 2012, Avnet's diverse wellness programs attracted participation from a broad cross-section of employees. For example, Healthy Steps included 90-day programs focused on reducing metabolic syndrome, 10-week Weight Watchers® at Work programs at multiple Avnet locations, tobacco cessation programs, and a 10,000 Steps walking program. Avnet also provided employees with direct access to six- to eight-week behavior change programs to help manage their health, exercise more, lose weight, quit smoking, sleep better and reduce stress. In addition to these structured programs, Healthy Steps supported employees' health choices by publishing food nutrition facts in the Avnet cafeterias, establishing a fresh produce co-op, launching a Twitter account for health tips, and promoting available programs through email and intranet communication campaigns. Avnet continues to expand its wellness programs even further, and in 2013 began encouraging employees to stop using tobacco products by offering a discount on medical contributions to employees who are tobacco-free and providing tobacco cessation programs for those interested in making a change.
