Google Expands Chromebook to 6 Additional Countries
Search giant Google is expanding availability of its Chromebook laptops to six new countries.
Beginning today, Chromebooks built by Acer, Hewlett-Packard , and Samsung will roll out to six additional countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
The company is also selling into enterprise and educational institutions in the new countries. Google's recent U.K. launch of Chromebooks has proven successful, with retailer Dixons saying that Chromebooks now account for more than 10% of all laptops sold in Currys and PC World stores, according to Google. Google also said it is expanding domestic availability to more than 1,000 Best Buy locations, doubling the number of stores it is currently available in.
The news comes shortly after rival Amazon.com expanded availability of its 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD, which competes with low-cost Chromebooks, into countries including the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
