Windows 8 Gets New Twitter App

Updated

Twitter released details of a new app for Windows 8 yesterday. While the app is capable of running on any Windows 8 device, Twitter chose to highlight the app's features in a video showing the software in action on a Windows 8-powered Surface Pro tablet.

Microsoft sold out of its initial shipment of the Surface Pro -- a full-featured tab based on Intel chips -- after seeing surprising demand for the lighter weight Windows RT version based on ARM Holdings' processor designs.

Twitter says its new app takes advantage of unique Windows 8 features, including "Snap View," which allows users to attach Twitter as a sidebar to any other app. It also offers a "Share charm" in which users can "swipe from the right edge of Windows 8 and then choose the Share charm to share content from any app, such as a photo or news article, to Twitter." Users can get the app from Microsoft's Windows Store in any of 22 languages.
