NSTAR Providing Much-needed Support for Electric Vehicle Technology

New information center offers essential information and answers for customers

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NSTAR has established a new hotline to provide customers with an effective, easy-to-access source of information about electric vehicles and electric vehicle technology. The information center hotline is a key part of a pilot program the company is launching in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources to identify a cost-effective approach to establishing an electric vehicle charging infrastructure within the commonwealth.

"We're excited about the launch of our new electric vehicle information center to offer customers expert service, information and guidance about electric vehicles and vehicle charging options," said Penni Conner, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at Northeast Utilities, NSTAR's parent company. "NSTAR is providing a single point of contact for our customers and communities, making it easy for them to find the answers they need to make informed decisions about electric vehicles."

As interest in electric vehicles grows, NSTAR believes consumers need accurate, up-to-date information about the availability of vehicles and the options to charge them. By providing a straightforward way to access to that information, the company is supporting the development of an electric vehicle infrastructure in Massachusetts and helping to advance ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

NSTAR's electric vehicle information center hotline, 855-463-6438, is staffed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a team of specialists dedicated to providing information about this emerging and increasingly popular technology. The company also created a website, http://nstar.plugmyride.org, where customers can access information at any time of the day or night. In the future, Northeast Utilities also plans to establish similar information centers for customers of NSTAR's sister companies across New England.

The consumer benefits of NSTAR's new EV information hotline include advice on vehicles and related equipment, payment options, optimal placement of charging equipment, and best industry practices. Representatives will also provide cost estimates to operate and charge electric vehicles, as well as offer referrals to other companies for additional information.

NSTAR, a Northeast Utilities company (NYS: NU) , transmits and delivers electricity and natural gas to 1.4 million customers in Eastern and Central Massachusetts, including more than one million electric customers in 81 communities and 300,000 gas customers in 51 communities.
