Giving Back to Volunteer Heroes: New Jersey American Water Firefighter Grant Winners

Nearly $23,000 granted to help local volunteer firefighter companies

VOORHEES, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For their fearless dedication to protecting the communities in which they live, New Jersey American Water announced today that 23 volunteer fire departments and emergency responders will be granted $22,000 to help off-set the cost of equipment upgrades and safety apparatuses.


A team of New Jersey American Water employees, who are all active volunteer firefighters or emergency medical responders, chose the 23 grant recipients from more than one hundred applications. The selected organizations and their proposed purchases are:

  • BayHead Fire Company No. 1: Five pairs of Ranger Boots

  • Berkeley Heights Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1: Two portable GPS units

  • Budd Lake Volunteer Fire Dept.: Water rescue equipment

  • Carneys Point Fire and Rescue: Personal Protective Equipment

  • Chatham Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept.: An MSA Altait HCN gas detection meter

  • Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1: Cadet Uniforms

  • Garwood Fire Dept.: Fourteen sets of firefighter gloves

  • Gibbsboro Fire Co. No. 1: A mobile data computer

  • Haddon Heights Fire Dept.: 42 Leatherman Wigman Multi-Task Tools

  • Hi-Nella Fire Company No. 1: Four LED flashlights & chargers; Four fire extinguishers

  • Independence Fire Company No. 1: Two pagers

  • Lakewood Fire Dept.: Six personal survivor LED lights and a charging rack

  • Lawnside Fire Co.: Three dual channel pagers

  • Little Silver Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1: Automatic External Defibrillator

  • Logan Volunteer Fire Co.: Two pagers

  • Magnolia Fire Co.: One multi-gas meter

  • Montgomery EMS:Fifteen rain jackets and hoods

  • Oceanville Vol. Fire Co. No.1: Five sections of 5-inch hose

  • Riverside Fire Co. No. 1, Inc.: One Automatic External Defibrillator

  • South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Dept.: Two 2 pagers

  • Strathmere Volunteer Fire Co.: Area emergency lights; portable generator

  • Tinton Falls Fire Co. No. 1: Fifteen LED flashlights

  • Union Beach EMS: Two radios
