BlackBerry Announces Order for 1 Million Smartphones

Smartphone maker BlackBerry has now announced that it has received an order for 1 million BlackBerry 10 devices from one of its established partners. The company will begin shipping smartphones immediately to the customer. The company said it was the largest single purchase order in BlackBerry's history.

Sales exec Rick Costanzo said it was a "tremendous vote of confidence" in the new operating-system platform. The company didn't specify wheher the order was for the Z10 or the Q10, or some combination thereof.

Verizon also said today that it will begin taking pre-orders for the Z10 starting tomorrow, with retail availability on March 28, priced at $200 on contract.
