IXYS Integrated Circuits Division Introduces New 800V Solid State Relay

The PLA171P exceeds 7mm clearance andoffers superior reliability over electromechanical relays

BEVERLY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IXYS Integrated Circuits Division (formerly Clare, Inc.), a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation (NAS: IXYS) , announced the immediate availability of the PLA171P, 800V, single-pole, normally open (1-Form-A) Solid State Relay (SSR) with 100mA load current rating. Specially designed to provide 7mm of clearance between the two output pins, IXYS Integrated Circuits Division's PLA171P uses patented, optically coupled photovoltaic technology and efficient MOSFET output switches to provide an enhanced input-to-output isolation of 5000Vrms.

The PLA171P is designed to replace, and provides superior reliability over, electromechanical relays. This device provides bounce-free switching in a compact surface-mount modified flatpack. The device features a low 2mA input LED current to activate the bidirectional relay, composed of two MOSFETs in an 'AC switch' configuration.

The 800 volt load voltage rating and the 7mm output pin clearance distance makes this device suitable for applications in meters (watt-hour, water, gas), power management control, medical equipment, patient/equipment isolation, automotive high-voltage circuitry, aerospace and industrial controls. Coupled with the Zilog MCUs as controllers and drivers, it enables digital power control to reduce power consumption, activate actuators, valves, sensors and other devices. With its AC capabilities, the PLA171P is ideal for reducing standby power consumption by cutting the power to devices that are not in use, thus reducing 'Vampire Power'.

Approvals include UL Certified Component: File E76270, EN/IEC 60950 Certified Component, and TUV Certificate B 10 05 49410 006.
