Subaru Recalls 47,000 Self-Starting Vehicles

Subaru announced today that it is recalling around 47,000 vehicles from model year 2010 to 2013 for potentially self-starting engines. The following models with remote engine starters may be affected:

  • 2010-2013 Legacy

  • 2010-2013 Outback

  • 2012-2013 Impreza

  • 2013 XV Crosstrek

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall statement, the vehicle's key fob may "randomly transmit an engine start request without pressing the button" if its Remote Engine Starter accessory is dropped. The engine may subsequently start, run for up to 15 minutes, turn off, and repeat until the key fob battery runs out of battery life or the vehicle runs out of fuel.
