JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- FIS™ (NYS: FIS) , the world's largest provider of banking and payments technology, announced today that Executive Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, Greg Schaffer, has been named to Computerworld's 2013 Premier 100 IT Leaders list. The only CISO to make the roster, Schaffer was recognized for his industry expertise and transformational work in helping to elevate FIS' security posture.

FIS has long recognized the critical importance of information security, especially as the demands of combatting cybercrime increase and consumers' interest grows in remote and self-service channels, such as mobile and online banking. FIS is committed to becoming the industry leader in information security, and Schaffer and his team are focused on continually improving the complex and interconnected ecosystem of solutions designed to protect FIS clients and the customers they serve.

"Cybercriminals and those defending against their attacks are in an ever-evolving arms race," said Schaffer. "FIS embraces cybersecurity as a critical discipline that permeates every layer of our clients' organizations - from the boardroom to the back office. For this reason, we are committed to our goal of becoming best-in-class in all facets of information security - from identifying system vulnerabilities, to anticipating looming threats and defending against sophisticated fraud schemes. While no one can stop the constant attacks directed at financial services organizations, a multi-layered focus on prevention, detection and response can significantly reduce cyber risk."

Schaffer, who joined FIS last April, previously served as acting deputy undersecretary for the National Protection and Program Directorate and assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In 2013 under Schaffer's leadership, FIS will continue to strengthen its solutions, using a data-centric focus to proactively manage cyber threats by leveraging all the human and technology assets of the entire FIS enterprise while insisting on execution excellence in all aspects of cybersecurity.

"The presence of a Computerworld Premier 100 IT leader on our executive leadership team underscores our commitment to becoming the leader in information security among financial technology providers and being our clients' most trusted partner," said FIS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Martire. This is a position that we take very seriously and underscores our client focus guiding principle."

Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders roster identifies professionals who have shown leadership in their organizations through technology. Honorees foster ideas and creative work environments, envision innovative technology approaches to business problems and effectively manage IT strategies.
