GE Unit to Provide Navigation Technology for Boeing Satellite Systems

Updated

General Electric subsidiary GE Aviation will supply Boeing with navigation technology for the latter's next-generation satellite communications systems. For the deal, GE Aviation will provide tactical inertial navigation units, devices that deliver a constant stream of GPS data used in such systems.

Boeing's satellite communications offerings utilize SATCOM, an antenna system that harnesses the wide bandwidth available by linking to Ka-band satellites.

"Tactical inertial navigation is an area of expertise for our team," GE Aviation quoted General Manager of Avionics George Kiefer as saying, "The inertial reference unit delivers continuous navigation data required for next-generation satellite communication systems in stationary and moving vehicles and aircraft."
