SemGroup (NYS: SEMG) reported earnings on Feb. 28. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), SemGroup missed estimates on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue dropped. Non-GAAP earnings per share grew significantly. GAAP earnings per share grew.
Gross margins dropped, operating margins shrank, net margins increased.
SemGroup logged revenue of $315.8 million. The two analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ expected sales of $326.6 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 5.7% lower than the prior-year quarter's $334.9 million.

EPS came in at $0.42. The two earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ averaged $0.27 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.42 for Q4 were 75% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.24 per share. GAAP EPS were $0.50 for Q4 versus -$0.11 per share for the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 12.8%, much worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 2.8%, 60 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 6.7%, 660 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $335.1 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.29.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $1.39 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.20.
The stock has a three-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 32 members out of 37 rating the stock outperform, and five members rating it underperform. Among 19 CAPS All-Star picks (recommendations by the highest-ranked CAPS members), 17 give SemGroup a green thumbs-up, and two give it a red thumbs-down.
