Warner Brothers' "Argo" Wins Best Picture
Argo, the thriller film about the Iran hostage crisis distributed by Warner Brothers -- a subsidiary of Time Warner -- won the best picture award at Sunday's 85th Academy Awards. The film was the first since Driving Miss Daisy in 1989 to win the award without its director - in Argo's case, Ben Affleck -- being nominated for the best director prize, according to a MarketWatch report.
The film beat out competition including the historical film Lincoln, distributed domestically by Disney's Touchstone Pictures division -- a film whose leading actor, Daniel Day-Lewis, won the best actor award. It also topped The Weinstein Company's Silver Linings Playbook, which won the best actress Oscar for leading actress Jennifer Lawrence. Argo also pulled in the awards for best editing and best adapted screenplay.
The Oscar is the latest success for Argo, which pulled in more than $200 million during its box office run.
