Europe Gets Visteon's Next-Gen Infortainment System

Updated

Automotive supplier Visteonannounced that its next-generation infotainment system will appear in a major European carmaker's vehicles beginning with the 2015 model year.

The infotainment system is capable of multi-device connectivity that can deliver apps, stream media access the Internet, and seamlessly integrate both cloud-based and local content to drivers and passengers via a simple user interface. It is one of the first automotive implementations of an "open source" platform based on the requirements of Genivi, a nonprofit alliance committed to driving broad adoption of in-vehicle infotainment systems built on open-source development platforms.

Visteon's president of electronics, Steve Meszaros, says, "Bringing the cutting-edge technology of the consumer electronics world to the vehicle, this new product fulfills our vision, and that of our customers, to deliver a superior user experience for the driver and passengers."

The audio infotainment industry is projected to grow at an annual rate of more than 12% over the next five years. Visteon's technology is currently available in more than 5 million vehicles annually for global vehicle manufacturers.
