NFC Foundation Grants and Donations Totaled $690,000 in 2012

Efforts remain targeted towards basic needs of hunger relief and shelter

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The NFC Foundation, a Nash Finch Company (NAS: NAFC) charitable organization, today announced that over $690,000 in grants and donations were provided to nonprofit organizations in 2012, representing a 47% increase in giving over 2011.


The NFC Foundation provides funding to selected nonprofits in areas where Nash Finch associates live and work, primarily in the foundation's focus areas of hunger relief and shelter.

Primary NFC Foundation 2012 nonprofit grant recipients were:

  • Bridge for Youth

  • Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis

  • CAP Agency

  • Casa de Esperanza

  • Dakota Woodlands

  • Families Moving Forward (Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation)

  • Fisher House Foundation

  • Hope for the City

  • Keystone Community Services

  • Loaves & Fishes

  • Neighborhood House

  • Neighbors, Inc.

  • Perspectives Family Center

  • Sojourner Project, Inc.

  • Special Olympics Minnesota

  • Theresa Living Center

  • Vetshouse

In addition to the 17 nonprofits grants, the NFC Foundation made donations to a variety of local hunger relief agencies in 22 markets in which the company operates distribution centers in the Midwest, Great Lakes and Southeastern United States.

"Thanks to all of those who supported our two major fundraising events and to our associates who continue to support the foundation through their payroll deductions, volunteering, and through various lunches, flower sales, and jean days," said Gary Spinazze, Chair of the NFC Foundation. "Because of the generosity of our donors and associates, we were able to give more back to our communities in 2012 than in previous years," continued Spinazze.

The NFC Foundation also administers the Feeding Imagination® educational program which donates new and gently used K-6 reading books to children and nonprofits assisting them. Since the inception of the program in December of 2006, more than 150,000 books have been donated.
