"Identity Thief" Beats Out "Snitch" to Top Weekend Box Office
Identity Thief, a comedy film from Universal Pictures -- a division of Comcast's NBC Universal -- held off the box office opening of Lionsgate's crime drama Snitch to take the top spot at the domestic box office this past weekend, according to data from Rentrak.
Identity Thief pulled in just over $14 million in domestic sales this past weekend, bringing its cumulative box office run to more than $93 million. The film also pulled out a third-place finish in international sales. Lionsgate's Snitch, by comparison, pulled in $13 million in its opening weekend.
Action thriller A Good Day to Die Hard, distributed by News Corp. subsidiary 20th Century Fox, took the top spot internationally for the second weekend in a row with sales of more than $45 million, bringing its cumulative total to more than $184 million. The Hobbit, a Warner Brothers' film that has raked in almost $1 billion at the box office since its release to reportedly become the 15th highest-grossing film of all time, ranked second at the international box office.
