IBM Launches New Mobile Portfolio
IBM today released details about its new comprehensive mobile portfolio for businesses, IBM MobileFirst, which is designed to couple security, app development, and other software with cloud computing and more to allow businesses to streamline operations through mobile solutions.
IBM's MobileFirst will offer expanded uses of the company's Worklight mobile app platform along with a number of other mobile solutions for businesses. In explaining the new endeavor, IBM stated in its release, "Through IBM MobileFirst, IBM is providing companies with the essential tools to take advantage of new business opportunities being enabled by mobile. To be successful in embracing mobile for driving revenue growth, clients must have an integrated strategy for mobile, cloud, big data, social business and security
To assist with MobileFirst's launch, IBM announced an agreement with AT&T to allow app developers to use IBM's Worklight to access AT&T's application programming interfaces in the cloud. The move should allow developers the chance to enhance mobile apps and use AT&T's tools to add complex features to their products.
The launch comes after IBM's 10 mobile-related acquisitions in just the last four years.
