Baker's Pfaehler Appointed Chair of the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Review Board

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE MKT:BKR), has announced that Gretchen Pfaehler, AIA, has been appointed by the Mayor of the District of Columbia as the Chair of the D.C. Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB). HPRB is the official body of advisors appointed by the Mayor to guide the government and public on preservation matters in the District of Columbia. As the State Review Board, HPRB also assists with the implementation of federal preservation programs and the review of federal projects in the District of Columbia. She is the first female architect to serve in this position. Pfaehler serves as regional director of Baker's Architecture and Planning practices in the Washington, D.C., region, as well as national principal of the firm's historic preservation practice. These practices encompass federal, municipal, institutional and commercial projects.

Pfaehler has over two decades of experience in the preservation, restoration and renovation of historic buildings and landscapes across the United States. Her expertise includes technical building documentation and assessments, integration of sustainable solutions and building material treatments, preservation laws, and review processes and regulations applied to historic preservation projects.


Widely recognized as an expert in her field, Pfaehler has lectured and published extensively on historic preservation and sustainability within the existing building context. Her work has been recognized with more than 27 national, regional, state and local preservation awards. She is a vice president on the Board of the Association for Preservation Technology International and is an active member of the American Institute of Architects, American Institute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works, National Trust for Historical Preservation, American Association for State and Local History, Wisconsin State Historical Society, and the Michigan State Historical Society.
