NiSource (NYS: NI) reported earnings on Feb. 19. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), NiSource missed slightly on revenues and beat slightly on earnings per share.

EPS came in at $0.44. The 10 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $0.43 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.44 for Q4 were 42% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.31 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.) GAAP EPS of $0.43 for Q4 were much higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.06 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.01 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

For the quarter, gross margin was 36.5%, 680 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 21.2%, 720 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 9.5%, 810 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.47 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.76.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $5.82 billion. The average EPS estimate is $1.56.
The stock has a three-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 154 members out of 179 rating the stock outperform, and 25 members rating it underperform.
