Mary J. Blige Hit With Tax Lien on New Jersey Mansion

Even after several Grammys, eight multi-platinum albums and some of the top-grossing hits in music, an artist can face financial hardship. Mary J. Blige was recently hit by a $901,769.65 tax lien in New Jersey, where she owns a Saddle River mansion, according to the New York Post. Blige is also being sued by Bank of America for not paying back a $500,000 loan she took out in 2002.

The money problems don't stop there. Apparently Blige also owes a New Jersey landscaper some $4,000 in back payments. To fix this, Blige is slashing the price tag on her Saddle River home. The diva has had the home listed for sale since 2011, dropping from an original ask of $14 million to its current price at $12.5 million. Blige bought the 18,250-square-foot mansion for $12.5 million back in 2008 with her music producer husband Martin Isaacs.

According to a blog report published around the time, the couple paid cash for the home. However, with a property that size -- the residence sits on over 4 acres -- the property taxes run nearly $100,000 a year. The sprawling, French country-style estate has plenty of room for entertaining and relaxing, including an indoor movie theater, fitness center, gourmet kitchen and eight bedrooms.
