EA just can't get enough of that blitz. The publisher has announced Tetris Blitz, a new variety of the iconic puzzle game that, according to Kotaku, incorporates a similar play hook to the successful social iteration of Bejeweled with the same surname. The game, coming this spring to iOS and Android, distills the core Tetris experience into 60-second, high-score chasing sessions.

It's said that it might be the most action-packed version of Tetris to date, complete with explosive line clears, power-ups and glitzy finishers. And just like its inspiration, there's even a Frenzy Mode in Tetris Blitz that kicks in when players clear lines quickly enough. Of course, being free-to-play, those power-ups will go for in-app purchases.

If you're a fan of Bejeweled Blitz--let's face it: EA is kind of banking on that--you'll welcome the addition of Facebook-powered leaderboards. Considering Tetris already is the embodiment of games that cause you to promise yourself "just one more round," Tetris Blitz will probably do a good job of keeping you in the bathroom that much longer. Come on, you were all thinking it.
