Yahoo! Acquires Alike App

Updated

Search engine Yahoo! has acquired Alike for an unspecified sum. The small startup will join Yahoo! Mobile, and the deal has been announced on Alike's homepage. The company's app focuses on making recommendations for things like restaurants or other local businesses to a user based on previous search queries.

Alike said it will be a good fit at Yahoo!, where it can continue to explore its vision of creating personalized mobile experiences. The company will no longer support its Apple iPhone app or Web apps, effective today.

Alike is the latest in a string of acquisitions under Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer. In recent months, the company has acquired Stamped, OnTheAir, and Snip.it, to name a few.
