DreamWorks Animation, Netflix Creating Show Just for Kids

Updated

DreamWorks Animation SKG and Netflix today announced an original series for children. Based on this summer's DreamWorks film Turbo, the original Netflix series called Turbo: F.A.S.T. is slated to premiere in all Netflix markets across the globe this December.

"Netflix boasts one of the largest and fastest-growing audiences in kids television," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks Animation. "They pioneered a new model for TV dramas with House of Cards, and now together, we're doing the same thing with kids' programming. DreamWorks is thrilled to be part of the television revolution."

In the same press release, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos was quoted as saying, "Families love Netflix, so creating an original series for kids was a natural for us."

This show follows an agreement between the companies signed in 2011, which brings the studio's theatrical releases and "select television specials" to the Netflix streaming service.
