Entergy's Earnings Beat Last Year's by 83%
Entergy (NYS: ETR) reported earnings on Feb. 8. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Entergy whiffed on revenues and met expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue dropped slightly and GAAP earnings per share increased significantly.

EPS came in at $1.72. The six earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $1.71 per share. GAAP EPS of $1.66 for Q4 were 91% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.87 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 34.3%, 210 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 13.3%, 50 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 12.2%, 600 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.61 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.83.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $11.32 billion. The average EPS estimate is $4.98.
The stock has a five-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 349 members out of 372 rating the stock outperform, and 23 members rating it underperform.
