Banana Republic is teaming up with dating site Match.com this month to turn select store locations into after-hours singles events.

On Feb. 13 -- the night before Valentine's Day -- eight Banana Republic (GPS) locations in major metropolitan areas will shift their focus from duds to dating, playing host to groups of singles from Match.com. Attendees of the mixers can flirt with other singles, enjoy drinks from a cocktail bar and then grab a free copy of Billy Joel's new love song compilation CD, "She's Got a Way." And if you strike out with your fellow singles, you can at least console yourself with a discount: All attendees will get 40% off any one item. (As we recently pointed out, though, Banana Republic has spent the last month going crazy with the discounts anyway, so don't attend the event just to save some money on pants.)

The mixers are actually part of Match.com's "Stir" program, which organizes events at various locales for its paying members; the site is hosting 400 such events this month, including cooking classes at Sur La Table. As for Banana Republic, it's placing the singles' events in the context of its "Love" advertising campaign, which is running this month on social media and in various national magazines.

A spokesperson for Match.com says that while some of the Banana Republic events have already sold out, there are still spots available at others. So if you don't mind paying the site's subscription fee (which ranges from $19 to $35 a month), it's worth checking out: If you wind up meeting the love of your life, then one day, the two of you can tell your kids about how you met while downing martinis by the chinos rack.
