SimCity Social, Hero Academy win big at 2013 D.I.C.E. Awards

Updated

Held this evening in Las Vegas, the 16th Annual Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences D.I.C.E. Awards acknowledged the best of the best in the video gaming space, from hardcore console shooters to handheld puzzle games, and for the second year in the row, Playfish (EA) won for one of its Facebook Sims titles.

SimCity Social was named the "Web Based Game of the Year," beating out competition in the form of CityVille 2, Bingo Bash, Song Pop, and Burrito Bison Revenge. Last year, The Sims Social took home the "Interactive Achievement Award."

Over on the mobile side of the awards, Robot Entertainment's Hero Academy was named "Mobile Game of the Year."

The night's other big winners included Journey and The Walking Dead on consoles, proving that sometimes, the most non-traditional of games can be the most successful.

As for SimCity Social, we have a feeling that Playfish might release some goodies to players in the near future to celebrate the big win, and we'll make sure to update this space if they do.

Are you surprised that SimCity Social was named Web Based Game of the Year? Are there any games that weren't nominated that you feel should have been? Sound off in the comments!
