Energy Department Posts Commodity Price Information

On Thursday, the U.S. Energy Information Administration announced that it has opened up a new web page on which it will post a set of key energy commodity spot and futures prices for easy reference by investors. The page, titled "Today in Energy," contains such data points as:

  • Wholesale petroleum prices for such products as crude oil, gasoline, heating oil, diesel, and propane

  • Average retail petroleum prices for gasoline and diesel across the U.S.

  • Futures prices for the coming month for similar commodities -- crude, gas, heating oil, natural gas, coal, and ethanol

  • "Spot" natural gas and electricity prices for various regions of the country -- New England, the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southwest, and Northwest, as well as for specific locales important to the energy markets, such as New York City, Louisiana, and Houston

EIA says it will be updating these data points each weekday, "typically' between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
