Retail Group Predicts Lady Cupids Will Spend $90 Each on Cards, Candy and Other Gifts for $18.6 Billion Holiday

CAMP HILL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As Valentine's Day approaches, Rite Aid stores nationwide are filling with moms, wives and other ladies looking for the most perfectly thoughtful gifts and greetings. Rite Aid is also making it easy to share the love online with interactive Facebook greetings, video craft tutorials and a fun Twitter contest.

With 4,600 locations, Rite Aid stores are always convenient holiday headquarters. But shoppers are especially sensitive to convenience for holidays such as Valentine's Day that tend to get lost on the calendar - particularly when the holiday falls late in the week as it does this year on a Thursday. According to a National Retail Federation survey, women will spend an average of $88.78 making Valentine's Day one of the biggest gift-giving holidays of the year.

"History has shown us that, at more than a week to go, women are buying the majority of greeting cards, plush toys, and other sentimental gifts that their families so look forward to receiving on Valentine's Day," said Rite Aid's Executive Vice President of Merchandising Tony Montini. "We've got everything on her list, making for a convenient and stress-free shopping experience, as well a few surprises yet to come for the men who've yet to start their shopping."

Thanks to American Greetings, Rite Aid offers hundreds of cards to help her express her affection. To make them blush or gush, the Premier line includes artistic designs with elegant stitching, fabrics, feathers and ribbons. Or for a laugh, she can choose from musical and light-up designs even including cards with singing underwear.

To get the house festive, Rite Aid has cozy decorations including wicker heart wreathes, mirrored glass plaques bearing tender messages, pink sparkling piggy banks and potted bamboo shoots grown in heart designs. Or, for an interactive design accent, Rite Aid has plush toys that sing, dance and shake including 8-inch tigers that croon "Kiss You All Over," puppy dogs that belt out the pop hit "Baby" and meerkats that serenade with "Good Feeling."

Plush toys make fun children gifts, too, with more than two dozen stuffed animals to choose from at Rite Aid including the new, 36-inch Jumbo Love Frog. Also new for Valentine's Day are the latest Beanie Babies, Beanie Boos and Beanie Balls including heart-checked giraffes and elephants. Other fun gifts for kids include As Seen on TV's Stompeez slippers, Dream Lites and the BrightLight, a heart-shaped pillow that glows red at night with pulsating LEDs.

Rite Aid has classroom exchanges covered too with card sets bearing individually wrapped candies or pencils. Pop culture themes include Brach's classic conversation hearts, Spiderman, Hello Kitty, plus characters from Toy Story, Cars and many more. For tweens, there are heart-boxed chocolates with Twilight's Jacob, Bella, and Edward. And don't forget to send the star pupil in with an apple, albeit the chocolate variety draped in red foil and declaring #1 Teacher.

For the men in her life, Rite Aid has gift cards that will go straight to his heart by way of his stomach including Texas Road House, T.G.I. Friday's or a hot deal on Applebee's cards. Or let him pick a gift himself with an Amazon gift card. Rite Aid can also help her appeal to his good nose with sporty and masculine fragrances from Adidas, Stetson and more.
