Mattel Increases Sales but Misses Estimates on Earnings

Mattel (NAS: MAT) reported earnings on Feb. 1. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS details
EPS came in at $1.12. The 13 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $1.15 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.87 for Q4 were 19% lower than the prior-year quarter's $1.07 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 54.3%, 40 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 16.6%, 720 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 13.6%, 360 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $980.8 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.09.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $6.82 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.78.
