Honda Motor Meets on Revenues, Misses on EPS

Honda Motor (NYS: HMC) reported earnings on Jan. 31. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q3), Honda Motor met expectations on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased and GAAP earnings per share expanded significantly.

Honda Motor notched revenue of $28.04 billion. The 12 analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ looked for revenue of $28.24 billion on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were 11% higher than the prior-year quarter's $25.25 billion.

EPS details
EPS came in at $0.47. The two earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.64 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.50 for Q3 were 47% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.34 per share.

Margin details
For the quarter, gross margin was 25.8%, 30 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 5.4%, 310 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 3.2%, 70 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.

Looking ahead
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $30.95 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.66.

Next year's average estimate for revenue is $108.66 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.72.
