PACCAR Hits Estimates, But GAAP Results Lag Last Year's
PACCAR (NAS: PCAR) reported earnings on Jan. 31. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), PACCAR met expectations on revenues and met expectations on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue shrank significantly and GAAP earnings per share shrank significantly.
Margins shrank across the board.

EPS came in at $0.69. The 20 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.69 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.72 for Q4 were 21% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.91 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 13.3%, 30 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 8.8%, 80 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 6.3%, 50 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $3.74 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.73.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $16.24 billion. The average EPS estimate is $3.25.
The stock has a four-star rating (out of five) at Motley Fool CAPS, with 625 members out of 675 rating the stock outperform, and 50 members rating it underperform. Among 235 CAPS All-Star picks (recommendations by the highest-ranked CAPS members), 221 give PACCAR a green thumbs-up, and 14 give it a red thumbs-down.
