CDI to Assist United Launch Alliance With Wind Tunnel Tests

On Tuesday, engineering-and-tech services provider CDI announced that it has signed a contract to deliver "data acquisition solutions" to satellite launch powerhouse United Launch Alliance -- the joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin .

Specifically, ULA will use CDI's 512-channel DSPCon "Podlink" system to evaluate wind-tunnel tests on the ULA Delta IV Heavy launch vehicle in preparation for NASA's Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1), "the first planned un-crewed test flight of the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle."

CDI will be evaluating the effects of "transonic conditions" on the Delta IV Heavy as it endures wind speeds of up to Mach 1.6, simulating travel through Earth's atmosphere. Testing is scheduled to take place sometime in Q1 2013.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
