In the following video, Motley Fool research analyst Lyons George tells us about Microsoft's announcement that it will be offering its Microsoft Office software suite on a subscription basis, a first for the company. Customers will now be able to choose a $99.99 annual fee, or a $9.99 monthly fee, for a cloud-based subscription to the software. Lyons tells us how this is part of a much larger software trend and why this is great for investors.

However, with the release of its own tablet, along with the widely anticipated Windows 8 operating system, the company is looking to make a splash in this booming market. In this brand-new premium report on Microsoft, our analyst explains that while the opportunity is huge, the challenges are many.
