Paramount's "Hansel And Gretel" Tops Weekend Box Office

Paramount Pictures' Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters took the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office by a wide margin this weekend, with $19 million in ticket sales, according to results compiled by media research company Rentrak. This weekend marked the opening release of the movie from Paramount, a subsidiary of Viacom .

Mama was No. 2 with $12.9 million over the three days.

Sony remained on top of the world box office, with its western film Django Unchained raking in nearly $48 million across the globe this past weekend. Sony also took the No. 3 spot on the global list, with the James Bond film Skyfall pulling in sales of more than $35 million. Together, the two movies have earned more than $1.3 billion cumulatively for Sony over their theatrical runs, the latter raking in more than $1 billion to rank it as the eighth highest-grossing film of all time, according to Box Office Mojo. Avatar is No. 1 with nearly $2.8 billion on that list.


Hansel And Gretel scored the second overall spot on the global box-office list this weekend, pulling in $44 million around the world.
